Barracuda Bulletin - June 16

This week's bulletin has important info about Friday's meet, some action items if you haven't RSVP'd for the party, some info on lost & found and a recap of the "special" meets coming up.

Friday's Lost Creek Meet (6/17) - 2612 Lost Creek Blvd, Austin, TX 78746

Our warmup starts at 4:30 - but parking is "a challenge."   If you're an Age Group Parent, please arrive between 4 and 4:15 and bring your own chair.  Everybody bring bug spray - I hear it's bad with all the rain last month.  Expect to park hundreds of feet away - see image below.   The main parking lot is "members only" and they'll have a "volunteer" helping us avoid parking improperly.   Seriously, though, you can drop off, but expect to park far away if you arrive late.   Don't park in the fire lanes unless you like tickets.  (It's happened.)   Note the Driving Range on your left as you drive up - you may choose to park further away once you see golfers hitting balls in your general direction.

On a brighter note, and I preface this with the league and team policy.... "AHSL Rules state that no parent that is volunteering may consume alcohol before or during the course of the meet, & must be alcohol-free the duration of their meet duties."   I only say that because they will be selling alcohol at the meet.   Sorry, our concession stand can't compete with that, but the kids like our Chick-Fil-A better anyways.   If this compels you to change your job for the meet, so be it.

Speaking of meet jobs, we do have a few open volunteer jobs that need filling for the meet.  If you want any shade at all for your children and don't mind transporting and/or putting up tents, please grab an open setup/takedown job.   Our area is full sun until a ways into the meet.

You can get there via 360 or Barton Creek Blvd; 360 is fastest if theres on traffic, but Barton Creek Blvd is probably faster at 4:30pm on a Friday.

The Party - Wed 6/29

If you haven't RSVP'd for the party, please do so - it's listed as an event on the schedule page - sign up for it like any meet basically.   We need to know how much Chick-Fil-A to order, so seriously, please RSVP - whether you're attending or not.   24 families have done so, but that means most have not RSVP'd yet.   We also have a couple of volunteer jobs for the party if you need a few more shifts, want to help out, or want to make sure that the DJ's playlist is more than Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift.

Lost & Found

Please check out the lost & found at practice before you take off for the summer.   There's like a hundred towels, a bunch of shirts, googles, and so on.   Also, please check that you have your own Barracuda shirt - as at least one family has been checking lost & found for their barracuda shirt - with their name sharpie'd on - that apparently went home with the wrong family after last week's meet.   Lost & Found is next to the drinking fountain in the bath house - everything hanging there is fair game.

"Medal" and All-Star Meets

As communicated earlier, we're going to finalize our all-star relay teams after this week's meet.   If you haven't signed up for the medal meet, please do so - it's an away meet on a Friday night, so the deadline will be Tuesday night again and we can't guarantee late entries since it's not our meet.   Pretty much everybody swims at that meet.  The site won't let you select events where your swimmer doesn't have a non-disqualified time from some other meet this season, per the rules for the meet.

For the Monday 6/27 all-star meet, if you know you won't be in town, please go in and RSVP as "not attending" for the all-star meet.   We'll work our way down filling relays, but it's a lot easier if we don't have to chase down a bunch of people.   There will be a number of swimmers invited "relay only."  The only way to participate in individual events is to beat the posted time.   If the site won't let you sign up for individual events at all-stars, then the times didn't beat the benchmark.   We'll send more on this next week.
